Ritz Reopens This Evening
Big Program to Feature Local Theatre’s “First Night”
After the expenditure of thousands of dollars in
improvements and renovation, the Ritz theatre will hold
a formal reopening program this evening by presenting a
number of vaudeville acts, special moving picture
features, music and addresses in keeping with the
dedication of what is proclaimed the fines movie house
in south central Florida. The Ritz was formerly the
Williamson theatre and the formal reopening falls on
the seventh anniversary of the opening of the
Williamson on January 19, 1925. Manger J. T. Webb
announces that while the box office will open at 6
o’clock this evening for the convenience of the public,
the doors will close after the 2 o’clock matinee this
afternoon to reopen only at 7:50 tonight. The program
will start at 8:15 with selections by the Ritz theatre
orchestra, followed by radio announcements of the
reopening over Station WSUN St. Petersburg, and an
address by Mayor O. P. Warren. Eddie Ford, one of the
country’s greatest organists, will preside at the
console of the three-manual Robert-Morgan organ. The
Three White Kuhns noted vaudeville troupe, will present
skits and will be followed by the overture march by the
orchestra. The management will present as the main
screen feature “Good Sport,” starring John Boles and
Linda Watkins, with two comedies, “Fainting Lover” and
“Harem Secrets.” Judge E. C. Wimberly will be master of
ceremonies throughout the program. Much interest has
been occasioned by the remodeling and renaming of the
theatre and it is expected that the formal opening
tonight will beattended by a record crowd.
