Sometimes these breakouts work great other times not - but they're easy enough to try,

As of last night, we have retired the IMDb Power Search,
and replaced it with a new Advanced Title Search: http://www.imdb.com/search/title.
The old system had been around for a very long time and could no longer be supported.
Keep in mind that in the last ten years we have added *zero* features to the Power Search,
yet introduced many bugs. (The results it gave were likely incomplete and/or buggy).
Also, keeping the system around made it more difficult for us to add new features to the site.
This change is the first step in making the entire search a much better experience.
The new system fixes a huge number of bugs that people frequently complained about in the old system,
(e.g. not being able to filter by TV/episodes),
and also gives a much richer experience for viewing the results.
Unfortunately, with this first step, we were unable to retain the personalization features
(such as filtering your results by your MyMovies or Vote History)
as they are not supported by our new technology.
However, we are committed to enhancing this new technology,
and we will be adding features based on user feedback and usage patterns. Keep watching.
We are also now able to provide an Advanced Name Search on the consumer site.

In the next several days you will see our new nav bar redesign on IMDb
Some of you may see the new nav bar on the site as early as today.

One of the main reasons we’ve redesigned the navigation bar
was to provide you with more content options at the top level.
We’ve added a “Movie”, “TV” and “Celebrity” news channels to the nav.
In addition, we wanted to provide users with an easy way to access
our seasonal sections of the site such as
the Fall TV Preview, Road to the Emmys, Road to the Oscars,
and Comic Con, just to name a few.
With the "Featured Link" display at the top right-hand side of the navigation bar
(where there is currently a link to provide feedback),
we will now be able to provide you with persistent links to these great sections.
Providing you with great video content
continues to be an important company objective.
We wanted to ensure that you could browse our
video content from any place on the site
and find out about the latest trailers, clips, TV episodes and full-length movies
that have been added to the site.

Re: Obnoxious pop-up ads
All our ads are supposed to be frequency-capped
(meaning: users should not see multiple instances of
the same ad during the same session or period of time).
Once an ad has been served, we send a cookie to your browser
which tells us that you've been served that ad so you don't keep getting it again.
If you get multiple popups,
it's either because there's a problem setting a cookie on your browser
(which may be caused by anti-spyware software or too-strict browser security settings)
or because the ad is not functioning correctly.

On this day in 1990 I published a series of scripts which made lists of credits
(collected by a wonderful USENET group called "rec.arts.movies") searchable.
