| Is there a way to search for a comment-posting user? robbie3999 - User - Registered Sep 28 2002 Thu Mar 2 2006 - Board: Help If you remember the movie title and the author, you might be able to find them with a google search. For example, try this one: Enter this in the Google search field: site:imdb.com "IMDb user comments for American Beauty" "bob the moo" and here is the resulting google search results: www.google.com/search?q=site:imdb.com+"IMDb+user+comments+for+American+Beauty"+"bob+the+moo" or, to find all (or many) of his comments: site:imdb.com "IMDb user comments for" "bob the moo" www.google.com/search?q=site:imdb.com+"IMDb+user+comments+for"+"bob+the+moo" This doesn't always work perfectly |

Re: Why have the administrators been deleting random people?
I have seen a few threads and posts within the last month or two about administrators deleting users who hadn't done anything wrong. Snake-666 makes a very good point in his reply. |
| The Posting Quota bbsadmin Mon Jul 18 2005 - Board: Help www.imdb.com/board/bd0000041/thread/22655746?d=22673294#22673294 The quota for newly created accounts remains at 2 minutes. Once an account is older than 3 months, the quota drops to 1 minute 30 seconds. Users with IMDb pro accounts are not subject to a posting quota at all. The admins have the option to lower the quota for any user they notice being particularly helpful (eg: posting informed, sensible replies on this board). Similarly, users exhibiting behaviour which stretches (but does not break) the terms & conditions may find themselves with a longer quota (eg: trying to defeat the quota and posting 6 messages in rapid succession then deleting them all) The Boards Administrators |
| Changes to the IMDb boards cn Thu May 26 2005 - Board: IMDb Information www.imdb.com/board/bd0000040/thread/19727218 First of all thank you for your patience over the last week whilst we've been experiencing problems with the IMDb boards. This is once again due to capacity issues relating specifically to our boards system and has not affected the rest of the IMDb site. As many of you may remember, we made significant performance improvements to the boards in March. In the brief time since then traffic to the boards has doubled once again and this is essentially what caused the old problems to resurface last week. The boards software team has made further improvements this week to create even more capacity and this has already been consumed! This what you might refer to as an interesting problem to have so thanks to everyone for making the boards a huge success. The boards database already runs on the largest system we can reasonably install in our production environment and still there is not enough capacity. We are continuing to work on the plan to spread the boards workload over multiple database servers. This is relatively complicated owing to the structure of the current software and we do not want to remove any of the great features on our boards during the transition. In the meantime, in order to reduce the load on the boards database we have introduced a traffic calming measure. Users now need to be registered to read the boards as well as post to them. This change should not affect any of our regular boards users as they are no doubt already registered and logged in to the site. The fact that you are reading this message now proves you are unaffected! The change affects casual unregistered users and should reduce the load such that registered users have faster access and more capacity whilst we work on the next round of improvements. Thank you once again for all your patience and support. Col Needham IMDb founder & managing director |
