Is there a way to search for a comment-posting user?
robbie3999 - User - Registered Sep 28 2002

If you remember the movie title and the author, you might be able to find them with a google search.
For example, try this one:
Enter this in the Google search field:
site:imdb.com "IMDb user comments for American Beauty" "bob the moo"
and here is the resulting google search results:
www.google.com/search?q=site:imdb.com+"IMDb+user+comments+for+American+Beauty"+"bob+the+moo"
or, to find all (or many) of his comments:
site:imdb.com "IMDb user comments for" "bob the moo"
www.google.com/search?q=site:imdb.com+"IMDb+user+comments+for"+"bob+the+moo"
This doesn't always work perfectly

Re: Why have the administrators been deleting random people?

I have seen a few threads and posts within the last month or two
about administrators deleting users who hadn't done anything wrong.

Snake-666 makes a very good point in his reply.
We have proper procedures in place and all admins are staff members
who are internally accountable for their actions.
There is no random deletion of users without reason --
accounts are only deleted for violations of the terms and conditions:
www.imdb.com/help/show_article?boardstc

The admin staff are continuously busy,
processing several hundred abuse reports per day and, believe me,
they do not have time to go around deleting people at random, even if that was permitted

We see many users show up here protesting their innocence after a termination
claiming to have done nothing wrong when we can look at the details of their old account
and see they are the most vile purveyors of racist hate speech
(or other extreme violations of the t&c).

Finally, we have recently clarified the position on posting chain letters.
It is now very clear in the help text shown each time you post a message
that chain letters are not permitted and will result in an account termination.
This was necessary to prevent the boards from becoming swamped with these useless messages.
It's possible that some of the people to which you refer have fallen for a chain letter,
reposted it and been banned.

The Posting Quota
bbsadmin Mon Jul 18 2005 - Board: Help
www.imdb.com/board/bd0000041/thread/22655746?d=22673294#22673294
The quota for newly created accounts remains at 2 minutes.
Once an account is older than 3 months, the quota drops to 1 minute 30 seconds.
Users with IMDb pro accounts are not subject to a posting quota at all.
The admins have the option to lower the quota for any user they notice being particularly helpful
(eg: posting informed, sensible replies on this board).
Similarly, users exhibiting behaviour which stretches (but does not break) the terms & conditions
may find themselves with a longer quota
(eg: trying to defeat the quota and posting 6 messages in rapid succession then deleting them all)

Changes to the IMDb boards
cn Thu May 26 2005 - Board: IMDb Information
www.imdb.com/board/bd0000040/thread/19727218
First of all thank you for your patience over the last week
whilst we've been experiencing problems with the IMDb boards.
This is once again due to capacity issues relating specifically to our boards system
and has not affected the rest of the IMDb site.
As many of you may remember,
we made significant performance improvements to the boards in March.
In the brief time since then traffic to the boards has doubled once again
and this is essentially what caused the old problems to resurface last week.
The boards software team has made further improvements this week
to create even more capacity and this has already been consumed!
This what you might refer to as an interesting problem to have
so thanks to everyone for making the boards a huge success.

The boards database already runs on the largest system we can reasonably install
in our production environment and still there is not enough capacity.
We are continuing to work on the plan to spread the boards workload
over multiple database servers.
This is relatively complicated owing to the structure of the current software
and we do not want to remove any of the great features on our boards during the transition.

In the meantime, in order to reduce the load on the boards database
we have introduced a traffic calming measure.
Users now need to be registered to read the boards as well as post to them.
This change should not affect any of our regular boards users
as they are no doubt already registered and logged in to the site.
The fact that you are reading this message now proves you are unaffected!
The change affects casual unregistered users and should reduce the load such that
registered users have faster access and more capacity
whilst we work on the next round of improvements.

Thank you once again for all your patience and support.

Your Know You’re an (obsessed) Imdb User if..

You Have at least three accounts
You spend more time with your fellow Imdb user than with your family
You are overexcited when someone responds to your post/thread
- and take it as an invitation to start more
75 percent of your friends are also registered at Imdb
You get emotionally distressed at the end of the day
- because off all the Message Board drama You had to endure that day
You have stalked at least two people
You constantly complain about stalkers yet You are flattered when someone stalks you
You update your profile every week and try to make it interesting so that people will read it
You start referring to yourseld by your User Id instead of your real name
You have been deleted many times and feel proud of it
You get jealous when your friends are deleted
- and get a welcome back thread so You delete your own account
Your family/friends are worried that You spend too much time online
When your bored, You make up obviously fake accounts and have fun trolling
You claim to hate the sandbox even though You post there sometimes
You pretend to hate the admins even though your happy when they delete someone You hate
You feel superior to newbies even though You were one yourself
You convince your friends that arent registered to register
You check a post/thread You made every two minutes to see if someone responded
You leave for two days and start a thread about your return
When You are gone those two days You worry - that people have forgotten You
- or You missed out on a great thread
You think its perfectly normal that You spend most of your day in front of a computer
You always complain about IMDB and how cheap it is
- even though You get frantic when You can’t use the site
You get offended when someone makes fun of You
- and spend the remainder of that day sulking
PMs have replaced your email account
You send a lot of pms even to people You don’t know just so You can get some back
You claim to get a lot of PMS even though your inbox only reads (1)…
- that was really sent to You by yourself from a different account
You put people on Ignore but then put them back off because You miss fighting with them
You like or have had a relationship with an IMDB user
When You feel like no one is paying attention to you, You start a thread about leaving
You have “left” imdb but came back….three times
You admire an IMDB user and read and re-read their posts frequently
You often eat one of your main meals while typing posts
You start a thread about anything that happened to You that day….
- even if it was only about your dog learning to pee outside instead of inside
When typing to people in emails, You accidetally use imdb markup
You memorized all of the imdb markup smilies
You like being first to reply to any thread
Half the threads on the message board are by you….or one of your Ids
You enjoy starting controversial threads about Gays/Religion/Politics
You post at least 10 links a day
You have read everything on Imdb,
- including its Private Policy, Copyright, and Terms and Conditions.
You can get into a heated discussion….about anything.
You have quoted someone in your sig
You feel proud when You get a new sig and start a thread about it
Not having a sig makes You feel insecure
Regardless of what You claim, people have seen a picture of you,
- know your address, know your real name, and even know about your family and friends
You get excited when one of your friends are on and spend 30 posts
- writing each others name in exclamation marks
You make up your own slang words and insist that
- EVERYONE knows what THAT means and make people feel stupid
If You laugh, cry, giggle, frown it was probably because of Imdb.
You know its pathetic of You to spend your time here yet You do it anyways

You make up a lame “You know if You’re an Imdb user” thing and post it on the boards
