As the official FAQ says, the Message
Boards search feature is not available any more.
It was disabled years ago due to the increasing size of the boards.
If you're looking for a user, check ACT1's IMDb user database first.
If it doesn't help, try Google.
The boards are blocked from Google and other bots such as Internet Archive
(due to their huge size and dynamically changing content),
but the boards aren't the only place where user names (IDs) show up.
For example, the user may have written title comments.
Or their Message Board thread may be featured on a title
/ name page.
(The search query must be something like site:imdb.com username)
Or they may have edited title FAQs, plot
synopses, parental guides, character
biographies,
in which cases their user ID will be displayed at the bottom, since those pages are wiki.
But user IDs on wiki pages aren't clickable.
If the page was last updated by your user,
you can make their ID clickable by adding the page to your Watchlist.
In the case of character biographies, if the user ID is in the list but isn't the "last updater",
you should still check the Watchlist,
since it links to the user who has last updated any info (not just the bio) on the character
page.
To find wiki pages last updated by your user,
the Google search query must be something like
site:imdb.com "Page last updated by username" (example).
Also, Google may have cached BoardReader's (or similar sites') pages
featuring the user ID (or the post) you're looking for.
If Google doesn't help either, try the BoardReader.
Incidentally, it doesn't modify user IDs in formerly saved posts
(i.e. even if the user has changed their ID, you still may be able to find them).
As a last resort, try asking for help on the board(s) your user frequents (or used to).
Some regulars may have added him/her to their Friends lists.
If you're looking for a post, try BoardReader and Google.
